Wine dinner series continue at our NoMad location with a sublime five course menu created by our Executive Chef Jerry Katzenberger and paired wines. Our nod goes to Kobrand, a family owned wine importer founded in 1944 in New York with a reputation of sourcing the best quality wine, which is proud to present three exclusive Italian wine producers who will present their wines at the dinner:
Alberto Medici, Owner, Medici Ermete, Emilia Romagna
Adam Verona, Brand Ambassador, Michele Chiarlo, Piemonte
Roberto Pighin, Owner, Pighin, Friuli
Michele Chiarlo philosophy is that they only produce “classical Piedmont appellations”. They are specialists in the 4 grapes that are the greatest Piedmont native varietals: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cortese and Moscato. The winery is 100% Family owned since 1956. Rigorous selection of the best grapes from only the most reputable growers in the most favored vineyard areas and longer aging in oak and then in bottle prior to release were measures he adopted before the DOC laws. Michele Chiarlo is also credited with being one of the first producers to introduce malolactic fermentation to Italy, thereby achieving wines of greater stability, lower acidity and easier accessibility in their youth.
Medici Ermete is regarded as one of the best producers of Lambrusco Reggiano and pioneer of single vineyeards Lambruscos. Medici Ermete is one of the oldest Lambrusco producers. Vignerons and winemakers in Lambrusco for over 120 years, the Medici family blends historic winemaking expertise with a modern and original style. Among the world’s best known Lambrusco wineries, Medici Ermete has earned its prestige through its special heritage and dedication to quality. Their highly acclaimed Concerto single vineyard wine has won Tre Bicchieri wine awards 8 times in a row.
Pighin is a family owned winery since 1963, which produces two of Friuli’s most highly regarded Pinot Grigios from two of the area’s best properties, Grave and Collio. Pighin’s Spessa di Capriva Estate is ranked among the top 5 in Collio for vineyard quality. Vineyard yield restricted to less than that permitted under DOC law to enhance varietal character, concentration and quality of fruit. Pighin has been producing for years beautiful aromatic and complex wines that represent the excellence of the Friuli terroir.
